Blood Brain Barrier

If you are sitting on the couch

and spot a tick

an adult female deer tick with its red crescent thorax

Crawling so small

along the folds of your gray crewneck sweatshirt

You search “tick” of course

It’s less about the shiver

and embodied fear

of illness

or not knowing, even, what’s happening on your own skin

And more the

reminder that the

outside can come in
