Peach Welcomes Season 5 Peach Seeds Charlotte Hughes and Dohyun Kim

We are so psyched to introduce this year's residents of the Peach Seed Apprenticeship for Emerging Editors: Charlotte Hughes and Dohyun Kim! This is the first year we've welcomed two emerging editors to fill the position, a decision we reached after receiving dozens of strong applications and seeing the potential to extend Peach's bedrock of friendship and spirit of camaraderie to our youth program.

Charlotte Hughes is a high school senior from Columbia, South Carolina. She was a 2020 Adroit Journal Summer Mentee. Her writing can be found or forthcoming in Waxwing, PANK, Columbia Journal, monkeybicycle, and The Raleigh Review, and has been honored by The Kenyon Review, Third Coast, Princeton University, and the Poetry Society of the UK, among others.

Dohyun Kim is a Korean-American writer and student from Los Angeles, California. He attended the 2020 Adroit Summer Mentorship under Gabriella Tallmadge and 2019 Kenyon Young Writers Workshop. “Cats on Mars” and "Chicken Bone" from the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack live forever rent-free in his head.

The Peach Seed Apprenticeship for Emerging Editors is our annual editorial residency program for rising high school seniors. We mentor our resident Peach Seeds on developing their editorial and curatorial skills, working on an independent literary project, and building artistic community. Among a variety of responsibilities, Charlotte and Dohyun are given a monthly spot in our online journal to fill with work by other young writers and artists, as well as the seasonal opportunity to book teen writers and artists to perform at our Episodes Reading Series.

Prompted by the need to include more youth voices in our publications and readings, we established the program during Season 3 (2018-19) when we brought on our inaugural Peach Seed, Sage Enderton. This year, after announcing that Season 5 would be totally virtual, we welcomed applications from rising high school seniors outside of our hometown of Buffalo, New York. We're grateful to have this special opportunity to see the Peach Seed program expand and evolve.

Keep an eye out for tomorrow's feature when we showcase our first-ever double feature: a poem by Charlotte and a poem by Dohyun! And be sure to tune in every third Tuesday of the month to check out their selections.

Welcome, Charlotte and Dohyun!
